I think one of the higher-ups at Hasbro woke up and said "we have this movie we're devoting alot of time/effort/money to and we have a 'competing' cartoon that doesn't look anything like the movie. why?"

They just chose the wrong continuity to continue I guess.

I'm still surprised that they made Renegades, something that looked/felt/acted nothing like the movie-verse. At the time of announcement it didn't make much sense. There was more RoC toys announced (all that stuff that got canceled or came under PoC), PoC was just a theme attached to the RoC toys, etc..

Business-wise it would have made more sense to make a Pursuit of Cobra cartoon in the movie-verse.

Renegades was better story-wise over RoC. But to me RoC was more Joe-like. There was stuff I didn't like about Renegades, having all these "joes" that weren't soldiers for one thing. There was stuff I didn't like about RoC, having Duke/Baroness/CC connected for one thing.

But universe-wise? I would have taken RoC with Renegades writing.

I too am annoyed at the one continuity/branding idea. It didn't really make sence to me when Roc showed up and it still doesn't. There wasn't the same story continuity in the 80's (even thought the looks were the same through the different medias)
