I was re -reading the Reloaded series this weekend, am I alone in liking this series? I was very disappointed that it ended so abruptly. Love the way that Cobra was portrayed. not a bumbling international terrorist organization, rather a domestic 'alternative" to the American government. So anyone else like this reboot?

I liked it more after John Neiber was replaced at the writer's desk. It was a great idea, though... frankly, I wished that DDP had just re-started the whole franchise from the very start.

what I enjoyed the most was how they re wrote the characters back story while stile making it recognizable. CC as a beaten down used car salesmen was just so believable, you could almost sympathize/ relate with him and made his rise plausible. The SS/SE angle had the marvel feel to it but seemed fresh, i was really looking forward their backstory. Duke as a traitor....great flip.

COBRA: Reborn (written by Paul Jenkins) was one of the greatest single issues of any G.I. Joe comic, ever. It just took a drastic turn towards crumminess shortly afterwards... again, Reiber was awful on that series.

I think Duke would've pulled the old triple-agent switch had the series continued. No way were they running with that one. ;)

Agree with the 3 way Duke action, do you know why they pulled the plug? sales?

Ooooooooh, yeah. They were pretty dismal.

GI Joe Reloaded started off with a great concept, and with Cobra Reborn probably had one of the best first issues of any GI Joe series. And then....GI Joe Reborn came out. While Cobra Reborn was very methodical and was a great stand alone issue, GI Joe Reborn was sort of all over the map and then it lead into Reloaded #1.

It is always easy to Monday Morning Quarterback this type of stuff, but I think had they done another stand alone issue and then gone into Issue #1 starting to tell the story of the two sides coming in conflict it might have started a little better. Between the writing and the "eh" art in the first few issues the sales started declining rapidly. By the time Dixon took over and tried turning the ship around it was too late.

To this day, I still think the characterizations of Cobra Commander, Destro, and Beach Head in Reloaded are the best ones around.

And yes, overall I really enjoyed the series.

I liked the series too. I remember working the DDP booth and Marc Powers revealling to me the Duke was a traitor! The look on his face when he found out I didnt work for DDP was priceless. What bothered me about the series was the same problem I have with all the DDP books. Its didnt blow up so they cancelled it without trying to keep going thru low sale numbers.

I'm generally pretty tolerant and understanding of most G.I. Joe oriented fiction, but I just couldn't get behind Joe Reloaded. Like everyone else I totally loved Cobra Reborn, but the rest of it just didn't work for me.

The whole Duke as a traitor angle seemed done purely for shock value, and I agree with Phil, the art just wasn't up to snuff. Definitely not the high point of Joe comics.
