*tap tap* Is this thing on?
Hey,
It feels weird to be writing one of these intros after having spent the last two years as more of a lurker in the Joe fandom.
For those of you that don't know me, my name is Fred and I'm the owner/admin of JoeBattlelines.com. I've been a life-long Joe fan-- having snagged my first figs with a one-two punch of a VAMP Mk 1 and a Stalker figure in 1982. I can honestly say that Joe is one of the few constant interests in my life over the years, although the role it has played has certainly changed. Back in 2003, after having worked on the now-defunct RingofCollectors.com for several years, I made an offer of assistance to the owner of a Joe board and suddenly found myself with 24 hours to come up with a site name before the ownership was transferred to me. Since that time, I've written reviews of figures, games, more figures and even took over doing daily news when David over at QKTheatre.com decided to step back. Of course, due to some "real life issues" in 2008 I essentially pulled back from being a daily presence in Joe fandom, even though I still follow things that interest me.
Like a lot of guys here, I'm not 100% married to one style of Joe-- I just like well-executed Joe. I think that folks like to keep dipping back into the well of the 1980's too much and that the property risks stagnation by not wanting to move on. While not runaway successes, I think that things like Sigma 6, Resolute, the new IDW comics, and even Rise of Cobra represented progress in the fact that an attempt was made to try something different. (The results, of course, vary.)
I think some of my favorite Joe memories involve going to the cons in New Orleans and Atlanta and hanging out with so many great guys. (Okay, "great guys and Sam..." Sheesh, what a wannabe fan!) I still miss the days of the Coil meets up at Nomad's house in Chicago and even over in Indy and hope to make it there again.
Oh yeah, and writing "tag team reviews" with General Hawk was just plain fun!
