I bet it doesn't.

While it does look like it is from a robot line, I would think it would have been "borrowed" from a line that Hasbro was the parent of.

???????????????

Have you read the rest of the thread? They did it all the time, and at least one other Robotech part was used. And why would they intentionally mimic another toy line rather than just reuse the part in their junk bin. The odds of it randomly looking that much like the SDF-1 are pretty slim.

Here's the the Revell SDF-1 model kit that was readily available at time, next to the clearest picture of that part of the MCC I could find on line.

Image

Yes that is a custom MCC, but it appears to only have some paint on that part and is otherwise unaltered.

The Revell kit does not appear to be the exact source of the part, since some of the elements are a slightly different scale, and the MCC has a lot of rivets that are not on the kit. So either the guy building the MCC took the time to alter the piece, or it came from one of the many Japanese kits of the SDF-1.

As a kid I had at least 3 versions of the SDF-1 aside from this kit. None of them were identical, but they were all pretty close.

I was looking at an actual SDF-1 toy, not a model.

Well that took some digging and effort. I'm just so used to seeing the many incarnations of the SDF-1, there was no question in my mind. Spotted it, posted it. That simple.
