So...I was just down in the floor adjusting something and as I got up I bumped a Conquest and sent it careening into another shelf causing Joes and Joe accessories to fly all over the place like a low budget homage to Michael Bay.

What's the hardest hit your collection's taken in terms of the havoc wreaked by clumsy oafs (like moi), children, critters, et cetera?

About 6 years ago I had a mint complete vintage Stinger I just got in from Ebay. It was shipped in a good box wrapped in a Wal-Mart sack. A few hours later my wife and I heard some noise in the kitchen. We ran in there and saw the sack moving all over the floor. My cat had wrapped her neck around the sack and freaked out. She was running around the kitchen banging it into walls, the kitchen table legs, and anything that was in there. She even pissed all inside and outside the sack because, I guess, she thought the end was near. Thankfully we were able to get the sack off of her and she was unharmed. I wish I could say the same thing for the jeep. It was in pieces and smelled like someone had just taken a big honkin piss all over it. I guess my clumsiness was leaving it in the kitchen instead of taken it to the Joe room.

I had the mintiest mint boxes skystriker, unused but no sealed, on a high shelf. There was some stuff stack on the floor under in. i was wiggling something on the shelf next to that shelf, and i was standing on a stool or something, and I saw the skystriker fall forward and drop a few feet and land on this uneven pile of crap. I just yelled "Noooooooooooooooooooo" as it fell. i mean, it was sooooo pretty, sooo glorious, every corner sharp, every colors vibrant...And now, it has two gouges in the face where it landed on some vehicle or something. and the gouges are bad enough that i cannot lift the paper or anything to try and make it look good. And now, whenever I look at it, my eye goes right to those two damn flaws on my otherwise flawless boxed skystriker.

Another one...A couple years ago i picked up a lot from a buddy. in it was a pretty decent, unbroken falcon glider. it was a little dirty, but it was literally only the third one I had ever seen loose intact in 20+ years. So, I slipped it between a boxed vehicle, and the side of the box, sticking up, and left it safely on the floor of my van, with some boxes stacked around it to keep it safe. During the trip home, i had to slam the brakes on to avoid hitting someone that i really should have just hit, and I heard something behind me fall, and this sickening sound of snapping styrofoam. the sound stays with me today and the most cringeworthy thing I have ever heard. I could stomp a puppy to death and those sounds would be more pleasant than hearing that styrofoam cracking. What was the vehicle that jumped out of it's box and landed on the glider? A hiss tank.

i have more. I watched a stack of like 4 terror dromes in assorted conditions slowly fall over and smash to the ground once. that blue plastic turns to confetti when it gets enough of an impact.

I've had a few near-misses along these lines before, but nothing like Sam's story. If he can't get back to a computer, maybe Fred will share.

Oh yeah, I forgot one more. At the 04 Con Drew found me a near complete SEARS COBRA MISSILE COMMAND CENTER in a very nice box. I boxed it up and sent it back home through their UPS they had on the sales floor. So I get back in town and wait for it to get in. A week goes by and nothing. Another week and still nothing. So I have to call them and after an eternity on the phone they let me know it was in Tulsa but there was a problem. I was thinking no big deal because I had insurance. Well, I get to UPS and they bring out the box. It was smashed up and beat to freakin hell. I opened up the box and the Command Center's box and contents were also smashed to hell. I asked them what the hell happened and they told me I didn't pack it well and they were NOT going to cover the insurance. I soon filed a complaint with the BBB and to this day I only use their service as a last resort.

Okay.....I have one for ya'll. I have a cabinet that was made by my great great grandfather. it is roughly 100+ years old. Pic of said cabinet below. The shelves are not known for being unstable but on one particular day I bumped the cabinet and all 4 shelves jumped off on one end(doors open of course) and all I hear is everything in there sliding and crashing to one side then spilling over onto the floor. Considering that all of its contents are minimum 20 yrs old. I'm mortified of any collateral damage. My dogs immediately run over to investigate and my wife(soon to be ex)is laughing hysterically. Luckily no major damage but it took a good few hours to get it all put back together.

The only thing that's happened to my collection was that I lost some MOC and MISB stuff due to condensation on a tile basement floor. Pretty pissed it happened, but luckily, it was pretty cheap to replace.
