I'm with notpicard on this. GH makes a great point that this was a late decision by Hasbro when trying to figure out their line up and waves. I think the tooling mold does exist. The expense also covers the production costs. While cheaper than creating the figure they are still there. And since time is money, how much longer is the production line and qc'ing for this figure and all of his parts. I'm willing to bet once Hasbro saw the whole picture for this figure, that is when they realized it was cost prohibitive to sell them to walmart at $2 a pop if there isn't enough retail interest to offset the costs. A lot of variables but I don't think tooling alone got him removed.

I also agree with notpicard that we'll see him at retail in some fashion. Hasbro will try to fit him into another wave, maybe around the holidays when stores are ordering in bulk. Ashiko and the Lava Pod show Hasbro is more than willing to recoup costs in some way. The Club is just onw od those ways. I don't think it is out of the question fot t
GIJCC to make him, but it is highly unlikely.

Do you have any reason to believe that Hasbro went as far with him at to cut tooling?

The popular reasoning for him being cancled is that he'd be too expensive as a single carded figure.

He'd be too expensive because he has a LOT of accessories, that means it'd take a lot of tooling to make him.

Tooling is supposed to be the "expensive step" in producing an action figure.

If Hasbro IS canceling Data Viper because he is too Expensive, why would they go through the most expensive process of making the figure (Cutting the tools) before canceling him.

If Hasbro didn't cut tools for Data Viper, there is NO WAY the Collectors Club could afford to produce Data Viper for their subscription service.

right on man. this is what I think. the guy looked too big to even fit in a single fig card. I think they could maybe fit him into the cobra strikes line as a deluxe figure or something.
